Overview

Build a Homelab ("this site") is operated by Josh Hall. This policy explains what data is collected, how it is used, and your choices as a visitor.

Analytics

This site uses Cloudflare Web Analytics to measure aggregate traffic (page views, referrers, country of origin). Cloudflare analytics does not use cookies and does not track individual users across sessions or websites. It also uses Google Analytics 4 to understand page views, engagement, and newsletter-interest clicks. Google Analytics is configured with Google Consent Mode and starts in a denied state until the applicable consent message records a visitor's choice.

Advertising

This site participates in Google AdSense, which may display personalized advertisements where permitted and consented to. Google may use cookies to serve ads. You can opt out of personalized ads via Google Ad Settingsor the Digital Advertising Alliance opt-out.

Affiliate links

This site is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means to earn fees by linking to Amazon.com. When you click an affiliate link and make a purchase, this site may earn a commission at no additional cost to you. As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

Affiliate links in articles are used only for products and services the author has personally used. They are disclosed inline where present.

The Subscribe links on this site go to Beehiiv, where the Trial & Error newsletter is hosted. If you sign up there, your email address is collected and stored by Beehiiv under its own privacy policy — this site never sees or stores subscriber emails. Every issue includes an unsubscribe link.

Comments

Article comments are powered by giscus and stored as discussions on GitHub. Posting a comment requires signing in with a GitHub account, and comments are governed by GitHub's privacy policy and terms. This site does not run its own comment database.

Interactive tools

The field tools run entirely in your browser. The AI-backed tools call the model provider you configure directly from your browser: your API key and anything you paste go to that provider under its own privacy policy, and never pass through or get stored by this site. The remaining tools compute locally on the page and send nothing anywhere.

Cookies

This site sets no first-party cookies of its own. Google services may set cookies where you have consented — Analytics measurement cookies and AdSense advertising cookies — as described in their own privacy policies and the sections above.

Data retention

This site does not directly collect or store personal information about visitors. Google Analytics and Cloudflare may retain analytics data under their respective policies and configured retention settings.

Everything on this site — articles, playbooks, and tools — is provided as-is, without warranty of any kind, express or implied. The guides document what worked in one real lab; commands you copy can modify or destroy data on your systems, and homelab work routinely involves exactly such commands. Test in a disposable environment first, keep backups, and make the placeholder values your own before running anything. You are responsible for what you run: to the fullest extent permitted by law, this site and its author are not liable for losses arising from use of its content or tools.
